Year of Manufacture *: 1998
Engine Code or CC *: 1.8T
( Optional ) Scanner Used: Multiscan/X431
Initial scan resulted in P1664(Pump failure), P1564 (reduced fueling mode requst) and P1608 (watchdog signal lost)
With faults cleared, cranking caused the P1664 and P1564 to return.
X431 also added P1564 (25,10,15,64)
I am taking that the numbers in brackets refer to failure type and according to the Infallable_Oracle_of_Autodata these refer to various types of signal failure (Though exactly what signal is not clear)
Checking through archives suggests that this is likly to be an internal pump failure. It looks (more or less) the same system that is used on those dreadful Astra diesels that always go wrong so I am not surprised!
Of course this is not really what the owner wants to hear, it has run faultlessly for the last 5 years and the very next journey he was planning to make was a trip to chertsey to trade it in for a newer motor! So obviously he wont want to spend any money on fixing it! (For some strange reason I always end up feeling that it is somehow MY fault when a situation like this occurs! Like I am the earthly manifestation of the Angel of DooM or something! Wierd! )
Are these internal faults repairable or does he need a replacement/new pump?
Are these pumps "Plug and play" or do you need to "Code" them to the ECU/Immo?
Is there some blindingly obvious alternative that I have missed?
Oh, and what is a "Watchdog signal"??
Cheers,
Paul
