The ideal Supreme Court would be 5 clones of me, 4 of auto, where certain individuals had 20 years of extreme specialization in one of tax, patents, business, antitrust, labor or environmental law. That's the biggest problem with the SCOTUS, these people are smart, but the ideologues just go with a camp in many cases and can't understand the policy rationales of all the cases in the economic sphere that show up in front of the SCOTUS. The federal judiciary probably needs to be restructured to create courts based on subject matter jurisdiction because the federal statutes have grown to the point where it is impossible for one person to have a decent understanding of more than a handful of discrete areas.
