These are the sorts of matters where it is important for the government to have a legitimate inspector general who can assess the resource allocation to fighting it against the revenue collected.
I would really love to know the factual background of how it got to the SCOTUS. Is the state forced to dig in its heels because of some hospital groups that employ tens of thousands of people that will likewise suddenly be exempted from the unemployment tax, causing major liquidity problems in the insurance fund? Unless it's something like that, this could be a case of an ultra vires act by a leftist who has an axe to grind and wanted to virtue signal against religion. I think there should be a robust investigation of this and if it's some group of liberal Karens out on a social vendetta pissing away taxpayer money they should really look into what sort of sanctions could be imposed on them. The absolute piss poor stewardship of the public purse and trust is the number one issue in this country today that transcends political party or geography. Previous Message
From what little I admittedly know about the underlying facts, the state labor commission essentially seemed to be arguing that the plaintiff was not religious enough. Which is kind of a twist.
