There was an incident in the Championship match between West Brom and Norwich 10 days ago where the WBA player Heggebo bundled the ball into the goal with his arm. Ref missed it. Gave the goal. Ignored Norwich players protests. No VAR in operation.

(Incessant) tv replays on Sky since have shown that it was a blatant (albeit presumably honest) mistake by the ref to allow the goal.

Authorities can’t do anything about the result in retrospect, but they have now banned the player for 2 (3? not sure) games for “deliberately” gaining advantage by conning the ref.

If they are going to be consistent - similar punishment should surely be now coming the way of the Colchester player, Iandolo.

If it doesn’t, can only be because FA get far more embarrassed by blatant refereeing errors / player cheating at Championship level - when they are plastered all over tv - than in L2 - where nobody outside Oldham is interested.

Wouldn’t get us 3 points back, mind. But who can say Mellon wouldn’t have gone ultra defensive for the 2nd half, anyway with 11v11, in attempt to just hold on to the 3 pts we provisionally had. We invited them to attack us at will and might have ended up losing anyway?
