New NC e-zine EIC Imogen Smith puts on her Criterion baseball cap and swings for the fences with a British noir series as part of a strong, deep roster of films coming your way in July...if you subscribe to the Criterion Channel. Here are the films in the British noir series--nothing surprising, but a solid group. I think I'd have gone with BLIND DATE/CHANCE MEETING (1959) as the Losey film, but Imogen may have opted for something more definitively British (BLIND DATE features a more international cast, even though it's set in London). Here are the films that will be available to screen in the series during July: Green for Danger (1946), It Always Rains on Sunday (1947), Odd Man Out (1947), Obsession (1948), The Small Back Room (1949), Night and the City (1950), The Woman in Question (1950), Pool of London (1951), Yield to the Night (1956), Hell Drivers (1957), Time Without Pity (1957), All Night Long (1962) |
