I agree with Destry. While I don't shoot 1-1/4 ounce loads all the time, I want to have the ability to do that when hunting for foxes, coyotes and waterfowl. A gun made in 1948 or 49 should be able to handle them; service pressures were well above 8,000 psi since the late 20's. That's the main reason why I'm not as active with Smiths as I once was. Try to sell a collector grade Smith that has set back and cracked and you'll see what I mean. If you own one or two, better keep them in the safe. They are wonderful guns to shoot occasionally with lighter loads but a clay shooter or an active hunter will likely be disappointed with the design flaw in the receiver/stock bearing or lack thereof.
