I don't agree with Market Hunter BUT another Forum called attention to a turn of the century Winchester Live Pigeon shell box offered on e-bay:
"Winchester, FRED GILBERT LIVE BIRD, 12ga. Extremely Rare OVER LABEL that pictures the Famous Fred Gilbert, distributed by Von Lengerke & Antoine Co. Loading: SPECIAL WADDING GILBERT 3" 3 1/4 DRAMS DUPONT 1 1/4 Ounces Shot No. 7 T.C."
Pressures were likely 9000-9500 psi and recoil with 1 1/4 oz at 1220 fps punishing to both shooter and gunstock. Looks like they were using boomers 100 years ago also
