Regardless of what anyone tells you, the "Match" is taken seriously by its participants and you should bring your most serious L.C.Smith to try out. Of course, bring your 16 gauge hammer gun and others, but if you have another Smith that will hit even one quarter of one more bird per round, that is the gun you want to shoot. There are many choices of motels in the Sanford area. You don't have to stay in Raleigh or Southern Pines or Pinehurst. The grounds are pleasant and the area of the property where the "Match" is held is kind of a picnic area atmosphere with cars. "The Lovely Linda" and I bring chairs, a cooler, and whatever makes us comfortable, you may want a portable shelter if you want to make a couple of days of it in the Smith-Parker area which some of us do. There are shelters provided also. The Association displays and gun trading area is away from the "Match" area, a short pleasant walk. There is food service and a pro shop and, yes, you can get in the car and get away if you or your wife choose to do so. Linda shoots the "Match" course and hangs out with me and helps to squad shooters, but she also relaxes under an umbrella or a tree and reads when the gun thing gets too much. She has known many of the shooters for many years, but your wife will know them after the first day also. It's no more than a day or weekend in the country. You must shoot your gun and practice before you get in the car to come to the shoot. That is the only warning. It is not an occasion to be missed. Deep River has a website that describes their facility but it does only a marginal job describing the shoot. Look on this site and the PGCA site to get a better idea about the Southern Side by Side.
