The Urban or Hip Hop Hot 97 of these days in New York City is not what it was when it began years ago. They started out at Hot 103.5 then swapped frequencies with WYNY the country station on 97.1 bringing Hot 97. A successful Top 40 dance station that incorporated Pop, Urban and Latin Freestyle music, remixes and mixes before CHR fragmented even further in the 90s and they niched further into Hip Hop.
Same as B96 did then and now they are in the toilet. The current Hot 97 is no better being beat by 1/2 the stations in the market including the classic hits station.
