Then we see the feast and he gives Benjamin 5 times as much food as his brothers, so now, they got all the reason in the world to be jealous of this Spoiled brat, but are they? I don’t think so, I think they learned their lesson.
At this point Joseph understands the situation, but refrains himself.
Then he sets up the brothers again, this time placing items in
Benjamin’s sack. And this time when accused of being thieves, the
brothers are brought back and get adamant of their innocence. And
still Joseph shows more mercy in judgment than they, the were willing
to let the guilty party if found stealing from the House of Joseph, to
be put to death, even said as much, but Joseph refrains, he already
knows the item will be found, but still it says something of the
bloodthirsty judgments of some of these men.
But as they are accused, I wan t you to note something, in the next to
the last sentence of 44:5 underline..”AND WHEREBY HE DIVINETH” and in
your margins write the words…”TEA LEAVES.”
I don’t think this says so much about Joseph, as it does what the
Egyptians, whom practiced magik,
Believed of Joseph and the source of his power, and perhaps that which
he may have knowingly let them believe despite knowing the truth, and
proclaiming such to them, even to Pharaoh himself.
Underline the last sentence in 43:9, the 1st sentence from “AND HE
SAID” to the word “WORDS” in verse 10, and all of verse 17 from the
beginning of the verse unto the word “SERVANT”, then underline “AND
JUDAH CAME NEAR” in vs 18.
This was very courageous act. To approach royalty without permission or being brought forth is grounds for death in many cultures. The Chinese emperors lived in what was
called “THE FORBIDDEN CITY.” It was called such because it was the
royal city and commoners were forbidden to enter, they would slain for
doing so. Such was to protect their revered emperor. Even to be a
SERVANT in the forbidden city you had to be of a royal bloodline and
possess a title, jus to work in the kitchen. In The Hawaiian Islands,
in the rule of King Kamiah miah, Hope I spelled that right, but it
sounds like KA’ MAY Ah, MAY Ah, if you even touched the kings
shadow, you would be slain.
So this act by Judah, as he begins to plea for Benjamin, and offers
himself shows us he is indeed courageous and worthy of being suspect
of standing up to his older brothers to deliver Joseph’s life, even if
into slavery in the absence of Reuben.
But note also in vs 20 we see clues to Bejamin’s age and underline in
the second sentence from the words “AND A CHILD” unto “IS DEAD” and
here we see Joseph gets concrete news of his mothers death. But
recall I said former he already knew, and by this point understands
his vision fully. Where is the proof of such, how do we know such?
It is in the testimony of his brothers in chapter 42 verse 21.
At this point here in chapter 45 when Judah reveals Rachel is dead, I
am telling you Joesph already knew and knew it when he wept, was the
reason for such when he did so upon seeing Benjamin in chapter 44.
Benjamin, the sight of him was the confirmation his mother was dead.
This is why he did not answer his father at 17 when Rebuked for his
dream. He could count, he knew the 11 stars from the first dream were
revealed in the second to represent his brothers and that they would
bow before him. This happened in 44:26 and you will want to underline
that last statement in that verse as well. And They bowed to him
before he even Lays eyes on Benjamin for the first time in 44:29.
Now how does show He knew his mother was dead? How does this reveal
such? Well first of all, Benjamin, is a little one, not a man, note
even mature teenager, maybe a pre teen, or mid teen, but still
considered little as expressed by Judah in 45:20, and most likely a
pre teen as Judah is recounting his former words here from his last
visit, and their very lives, their freedom depended upon their
honesty.
So if they said their brother was “a Little ONE”, they knew, they
better return with what could be considered beyond doubt to be “A
LITTLE ONE.”
So, Joseph at 17, could surely count, we know he could count to 11.
But he only had ten brothers.
Now by the second dream, he knows the stars represent brothers, and
they bow down to him, okay, really what’s so bad about being made
ruler of the world? And for that matter, in this case as it turns out
and he is credited as a SAVIOR, at least in his time…what so bad about
getting that news?
WHY WOULD THAT NEWS IN A VISION HAVE UPSET THE YOUNG 17 Year old Joseph?
Or to more simpler terms, getting the news you are going to have a
brand new baby brother, nothing bad about any of that right?
BUT…What if…
that news meant, your mother was going to die?
Joseph was getting dreams to this timeframe when he is 39, back when
he was 17, and Joseph, was being shown this time in perspective, in
37, Joseph has a dream at 17 yrs old, and tells it to his brothers and they hate
him even more for it, show him their contempt, then he has a second
dream, and he tried to tell them about it, and they wouldn’t listen,
so he goes to his father, now he knows he only has 10 brothers, and he
knows his mother will bear another, and he doesn’t take this as
joyful, he is trying to get his brothers to listen to him, and they
won’t, so he goes to his father, hoping to warn him, and he knows the
meaning, it has been explained to him, He knows he is going to have another
brother, that all 11 will one day bow before him, but he doesn’t really
understand it, as it has happened yet, and Jacob rebukes him, and we
see proof of this in his brothers testimony, something in that dream,
broke his heart, SOMETHING IN HIS SECOND DREAM CAUSED JOSEPH
TO PANIC!
…IN Verse 21 of chapter 42 his
brothers testify to the dream they wouldn’t listen to, we know that is
not the first dream, because listened to that, and hated him yet the
more….and years later they recount while in jail
Genesis 42:21 We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul when he besought us, and we would not hear”
and Reuben thinks they are talking about the moment just before the Killed Joseph, only they didn’t kill him, and they won’t confess to Reuben yet, but they have a
deeper understanding than even he does as to why they are imprisoned. And the anguish they are ALL referring to is that they witnessed upon the face of the 17 yr old Joseph when he tried to tell them the second dream
and they confess “We saw the ANGUISH OF HIS SOUL AND WE WOULD NOT HEAR” and he went then to his father and tried to
tell him.
He has known for years his mother would die giving
childbirth, and the sight of Benjamin offered the realization of the
confirmation to the timeline. He wasn’t boasting, wasn’t being a brat…”nanny nanny boo boo…I am going to stand above you!”
That’s not how it went down at all! This is not talking about a scared brat in a pit!
This is talking about a boy with the gift of Prophetic Dreams, Terrified by the contents of his own visions!
He didn’t show anquish and beseech them not to kill him in that pit…He thought sure Big Brother Reuben was going to save him and get him back to daddy! (Gen 37:21, 22)
Now there is a key point to be yet drawn out from scripture in this study to support this!
And we are going to see it shortly, but for now…
Trust me, he knew when he saw Benjamin, he understood completely by
that point, I get visions and dreams, have experienced such things first
hand, I know how such works I know what it is like to wake up landing on my feet screaming, having jumped out of bed from a deep sleep due some horrific sight shown me in a sleeping Vision!
He believed it when God sent the dream, he was given understanding, panicked, tried to tell everyone, because he loved his mother, he didn’t care if Egypt and Canaan starved to
death, he just wanted his mamma.
