City Council seems to rubber stamp nearly everything the Mayor puts forth, due to concern the Mayor might not support the "non team player" council member. And yet, here we face another election where only a couple of incumbent elected officials are being challenged. I have always advocated for young people to step up to the plate and get involved with our local politics. I'm happy to see this time that there are a few young men on the ballot for school board. Maybe a 20 year old hasn't had the experience but I bet he has more drive than some of us 70-80 year olds. I think there are only two aldermen being challenged. One has two challengers and the other has one challenger. I will be voting anti-incumbent this time. My alderman comes around every four years for my signature and a request to put a sign in my yard. Not this time. The city council has to start stepping up and representing me. I wish I was younger this time because I'm fired up. Our city let Shop N Save and Lowe's walk away and has done nothing to replace either. However, old farts like me and my alderman should be stepping aside for these younger folks. Don't complain that things stay the same people. We vote them in. This election, fewer than fifteen per cent of people will probably even vote. Our Mayor isn't up for re-election and there are no bond issues. People simply don't care. I don't know why. Go Vote!
