My opinion is that Texas has a right to succeed if the residents vote in favor of it. People tend to forget that the United States are just that...states that are united through the vote of the people of those states and have agreed with the constitution that binds us in a common thread.

The Federal government has become too powerful. The Federal government should have no business in providing anything but protection of these states that are united and the laws according to the Constitution that upholds individual rights. All else, such as education, welfare and health care should be issues that the states monitor themselves. The idea that "once you've joined, you've lost your right to quit" doesn't sit well with me.

Just because I might not agree with an idea behind succession (such as the southern states which brought about the Civil War) doesn't mean I'd deny their rights to call it quits and rule themselves.

Maybe this might sum up my opinion. As a nation per our constitution, I agree that states, counties, townships and cities should not be allowed to fly the Confederate flag (I don't support much of what I understand is the sentiment of what many that stand behind it do). But the restriction that it not be sold or bought or displayed on private property is a breach of individual freedom.
If a state in the majority of it's citizens don't agree with U.S. Federal law the citizens should have the right to vote on succession from the Union. I feel they have that right even thought I might not agree with their cause.
