I agree. GC started it's long trek downward in the 70s, long before these "other" people that opie refers to, which of course is his thinnly veiled way of trying to cover up his overt racism, ever moved into town.
Check out the demographic history of the City. As recently as 2000, there were less than 8% of the population that was black. I think one could make a string case that Granite is better of today than it was in 2000, even though there are more of those "others" living here today than there were then.
If Opie really wants to know where the town went wrong, he should look at the town's lack of good leadership from about the 1970s through to the Selph years. The leadership today is better than the Selph administration, but then again, we could have elected a bologna sandwich and it would have done better than the Selph administration.
