Couldn't agree with Sean more... I rarely post on political discusions and just lurk because when I do I have been jumped and criticized for my opinion while other folks here believe that their opinion is right and like to throw it in your face and shove it down your throat. I was raised by staunch democrats. I married a man who was raised by staunch democrats. When I was younger, I believed that the working class was supposed to vote democrat and that was that. My husband became a union member and guess what? We were encouraged to vote democrat. Now that I am older (and hopefully a little wiser), and my husband got laid off, I see that there are many good and bad things about BOTH sides. I began doing my homework and researching different things that I am passionate about regarding government. I realized that while I may sway more left than right, neither party is perfect and it's like trying to pick the lesser of two evils. I voted for Obama the first time around and I am not ashamed of that. The second time around I could not bring myself to pick the lesser of the two evils because to me, they were both evil and not good candidates for either party. Now, I did vote because it is my right but I knew that my vote didn't really count because I voted for a "write in" and we all know that will never work. I voted anyway and hoped for the best. I believe that until we get rid of the 2-party system, we are screwed. I believe they are all in cahoots with each other, being run by big corporations who don't give a damn about the working class. Until we get people in office who are or have been working class citizens, and not tutored, taught and trained to stuff their parties agenda down our throats, we are screwed. I'm not a political genius (obviously). Half the time I have to ask questions and do research because I don't understand exactly what is going on in government and politics. I just know that we started out as a middle class family and now we are lower middle class and barely making it with 3 children. I don't want myself or my children to be a slave to their job just to scrape by. I don't want to be ashamed that we had to ask for assistance when my husband got laid off for the first time ever. I found it humiliating and embarrassing but I was grateful for it anyway. Because both of us have always worked hard for what we have and never asked for a hand out before. It is what it is. I just get tired of the right. I have many friends and acquaintances who are die-hard Republicans. I am very open-minded. I want things to work. My right winged friends believe that they are indeed right and that everyone else is in the wrong. I never see them trying to put themselves in someone else's place and actually think about what they would do if they were in that situation. It's my way or the highway- that's how they represent themselves to me and I can't see how we will ever accomplish anything without some kind of open-minded compromise. *whew* Let the bashing begin~~~~>
