The Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act of 2012 extends the NFIP (national flood insurance program) for 5 years along with many reforms, which demand that homes and buildings in high-risk flood areas with mortgages from federally regulated or insured lenders are required to have flood insurance. lenders of home mortgages now can demand it according to the NFIP, even in moderate-low risk flood areas, even if it is not federally required.
although there is not a federal mandate for car insurance, most states do have completely constitutional mandates in place. essentially, the federal government left it to states, and states can require it by law. Only Wisconsin and New Hampshire do not have a mandate for car insurance. the other 50 states do.
