your liberty did not die. you, being treated equally as everyone else, just had your pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness enhanced.
i already know you will talk about the mandate, and by no means is that a perversion of liberty. it is not a betrayal of liberty when you must buy flood insurance in a flood plain, or car insurance, and this is no different. those who are ill able to afford another bill can go bronze and likely pay 0$ per month in premiums but still be capped on out of pocket costs and provided a safety net in case they do get ill. preventative care is covered to help diagnose and screen for ailments before they become more dire or harmful. pre-existing conditions are gone and above all else, our government can dictate to insurance companies what they can and can not do policy-wise. this prevents the cost of healthcare from rising and being passed onto the insured, as everyone will be insured. nowhere in any of this is a perversion of liberty.
i view liberty as freedom insofar that it does not impede upon the freedom of others. i view this much needed healthcare regulation and reform as a tax used to regulate an industry essential to life through subsidies. turns out the conservative supreme court agrees.
as it says in article 1, section 8 of our constitution; it is the responsibility of our government to provide for the common defense and general welfare of our people.
i view the negative backlash to this reform much how i view southern democrats resisting the abolishing of slavery. i am sure those plantation owners thought the government was violating their liberty as well.
