I doubt if anyone could imagine, just how horrific it would be. My 94 year old dad, who is in a nursing home currently, made 7 landings in the Pacific and he has told me, he just knew he'd never make it home, but yes had many fall around him at different times of his 4 year duration.
I know one time during the Panama crisis, I'd shot my mother had she stood up and said hello, yes I was scared at the time.
