I enjoy constructive criticism, so thank you for speaking your mind.
A few examples of cuts I am talking about are things like reducing district funding for extracurricular activities (supplemented by more fundraising), school uniforms (I know that there is a one time "voucher" available), all building and "beautification" projects (unless it is completely paid for via grants). I know some of these cuts will not be popular, however when we are up against the wall with this budget situation we need to make these difficult decisions. Also you have to keep in mind that hopefully these cuts will only be temporary. If elected I would have the ability to find more areas to cut.
I don't mean to upset anyone with the comment about feeling uneasy about the district in its current situation. I currently feel that we need serious changes in many areas, and although I will not be able to fix/solve everything, I do believe I could help to fix/solve at least some of them.
At my previous job I did not deal with union contracts. I am however a Refinery Lab Committeeman for the Operating engineers union at the Wood River Refinery. I am very familiar with federal mandates, as I had to deal with audits from the FDA. and EPA.
There is nothing that can be done regarding raises for union jobs since it is in their contract. I am not saying I am against the administrators receiving raises to keep up with the teachers. However if you look at the percentage increase for both teachers and administrators you will see that administrators are seeing a larger increase.
I know at least four board members are retired teachers or administrators. I'm not sure on the others. There are also two more running in this election.
