Who gets to decide what 'for the good of the people'
Guess this is the same question I am trying to ask you.
I am not trying to be bullheaded. I am bound by my beliefs, but they are not a blanket of do's and don'ts, as many who do not understand the relationship one has with Christ, often believe.
I do not believe that drugs should be legalized for many reasons and I know there are some who will use no matter what. For those who are merely thrill seeking, there are other ways to thrill seek that are not illegal, just as was pointed out - skydiving for one.
My concern is for those who might use drugs to escape, or to fit in. My main concern is not making it more accessible to our youth. If it is legal, it will only be easier to acquire and sell to those who are not allowed to purchase it themselves and there will be those who make a buck off our kids.
To think it will not make it more appealing to the youth of this nation is absurd. Some of the kids who do not try it now, do not try it because it is illegal and they fear getting caught. If it is made legal the youth will look at it as being "okay" - so says the people who are supposed to know.
Don't get me wrong I feel for the adults in this world who are caught in the trap, they are someones child, father, mother, sister, etc... I just have more concern over the youth who are too immature to make good decisions, who get caught in a world they have no business being in and some remain not knowing how to get out. These grow into those adults who are caught and die early.
To say that it won't be the youth who does most of the experimenting with the "legal" drugs is not logical. Adults who are set in their beliefs and ways are not going to be among those who experiment or get hooked.
Out of curiosity - why do you always make the government the enemy - the government in this country is the people, us, that is why I thought Jeremy was wrong about the majority issue, because that is the point if the "people" run the government - right? It just seems lately, especially the judiciary branch, has been overstepping their bounds. But in essence, since we elect those who make the laws - aren't we in charge and to blame?
