Another free site is LDS.org, And depending on what and where you are looking you can find more off the free sites. Ellis Island is also great for Immigration records also free. One thing to remember when doing search is the spelling of the name, my last name is a lithuanian name with 9 letters so the spelling has varied soooooooo much especially on immigration papers because Americans tried to write Lithuanian names after hearing it through an accent. Kev you have made it wayyyyyyyy further then I have I have only made it back to 1862 the birth of my ggrandfather, now I am waiting on papers from lithuaian Archives for his parents names bith and baptismal records. Been waiting 7 years!
