Yeah, the plan would be something else... and it would be crippling.

    There are 12.8 Million Illinoisians.

Should we lose Cook, Lake, DuPage, Will, Lake, McHenry and Kane Counties...

We would be down to a state of 4.7 million.

The state of Chicago would be smaller than NJ in population but larger than VA.

The shortened State of Illinois would be fewer in population than Alabama but a bit larger than South Carolina.

I am with Catching...losing Chicago is not good for Illinois.

The area outside of Chicago land is not all depressed, but outside of the city centers like St. Louis, Springfield, Bloomington, Decatur, Champaign and Peoria --- despite the rich farmland -- there are some really, really poor places.

Hate to tell ya, but it would not be this Red State Libertarian Mecca you all think it would be.

We lost Chicago, but a then the suburbs too. The Metro East is suddenly the hub of the state, and Madison County would be the second largest county after Winnebego (Rockford).

Something tells me this new state wouldn't be all that great of a deal.

Lower taxes may spur some growth, but at the cost of losing the business environment of Chicago.

I think the state of Chicago would prosper, actually and the purpose of it all would be defeated.

    That's my take.
