Gotcha, I see where you are coming from. I'm sorry I got touchy about it, but alot of people are misunderstanding how many people are actually getting free care when they would rather pay and be able to choose better doctors. I've heard many a people blame "this whole thing" as a result of the people who have pre-existing conditions. I've heard how it must be our fault that we aren't healthy and so it's only fair that we pay more and we just should have kept our insurance in the first place (even if it's not our fault we lost it). It seems I keep hearing that over and over again (not neccessarily here), but many other places. It's starting to get a little overwhelming.

I understand that business wise, we aren't good investments. And if medical bills weren't so freaking ridiculous, then it would be another matter. I had to go the ER a few months ago for what turned out to be med complications (I'm guessing, they never did tell me why I was having those symptoms). Between the two doctors I saw, one the night I was admitted, the next I saw the next day, I owe $1500. Neither doctor was around for even a half hour. Another problem, is without insurance, regardless if you want to pay, many specialists will refuse to see you! As soon as they find out you don't have insurance, you get hung up on. We may not be the best investments, but without insurance, we are literally screwed!

Actually, I totally understand the whole paying and not getting to use it problem. That's what I keep dealing with each time I get a new job. Because of pre-existing conditions, there is usually a 6-month to 1 year clause that says even though you are paying for the coverage, we won't cover you on what you already have (and really need covered). My last employer really screwed things up for me by not getting insurance in time and then, not sending papers to keep it. So, I paid for a whole bunch of coverage I never used. So, you see, I DO understand, and is something I've dealt with all my life.

I DO hope they can rewrite it so that it works better for everybody.
