    I agree with Opi. Don't pretend the holiday or traditions that you did with Mom don't exist. What's worked for my family after losing my aunt (basically the matriarch who raised all the siblings) was to start a new tradition in addition to the ones already celebrated: Gather the same people but at someone else's house. Make the same recipe but serve it as an appetizer rather than a side dish. And smile through the tears as you comment that you've never perfected that dish the way she did, and that the family gathering would be at a much cleaner house if it were at Mom's than yours. (Our situation, not necessarily yours)
