Wait a minute! Now correct me if I am wrong. But I get the sense from your post that you believe AA's want to be independent( quote: Know your role). Now, I cannot speak for AA's because as of now I am a hopeful. But, I don't think that AA's have a problem working with or under (as you might put it) an anesthesiologist. The role doesn't allow for THAT KIND OF independence and I think many are fine with that. And many CRNA's work with anesthesiologist also. To ME, here is where the problem lies. I understand people fighting for their profession. Thats fine. To each their own. But for CRNA's to battle AA's over same mess that the MDA's battled them with (ie: Education, safety,etc..) is total HYPOCRISY. CRNA's sound like the MDA's now! Studies have shown that safety isn't an issue, so the CRNA's are starting to back off of that stick. Now they are referring to the educational factor. WHY? Because AA's didn't want to be nurses? Does that mean because I wasn't a nurse first, then I shouldn't be a surgical assistant? There are 900 different allied health professions that don't include becoming a nurse first ( over exadurating). They are much needed. There are many ways of getting to the same point ( simple geometry showed me that in 7th grade), doesn't make the route taken is wrong. Anesthesia is just another area of health care that is bringing in other providers to help. Did you know there are now Radiologist assistants? They make 6 figures also. I didn't know they existed did you? I have been a surgical assistant for almost 8 years and never knew that. Now you know, if you didn't! They are going to start gaining ground. I bet you believe they should be nurses first also( me, being smart). Look, personally, I don't care who is money hungry or whatever, so long as I can take care of my little girl...ya'll do what you have to do....and as long as that is in check, I'll BE an assistant... it's all GOOD!! When I don't want to be an assistant... I'll go to med school!
