I'm not surprised that the Canadian government is moving forward with Nurse Anesthetists. After all, Nurse Anesthetists have been administering safe anesthesia in the USA for at least a century. The impeccable safety record of CRNA administered anesthesia is indisputable and I'm glad that the Canadian government recognizes what has been demonstrated in this country decade after decade after decade in EVERY practice setting in EVERY state: Highly trained Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists provide safe quality care to their patients. I'm sure the Canadian Anesthesiologists will hold the emerging profession of Canadian Nurse Anesthesia firmly under their thumb, so I'm not sure why precious resources are being wasted training in your words "technicians". In contrast, some resources in this country that should be used to expand the educational opportunities for Nurse Anesthesia education are instead being diverted to needless feeble expansions of the A$As failed AA experiment. This development is unfortunate, unnecessary, and designed BY THE A$A with one overriding A$A goal, total control of the provider(AA) and thus total control of the revenue generated by the provider. Education of Nurse Anesthetists provides more bang for the buck. CRNAs are capable of working in EVERY anesthesia practice setting in this country, unlike AAs who are not competent to, nor allowed by law to, administer the simplest anesthetic without MDA supervision. The University of Kansas has nothing to do with the A$A resurrection of the failed AA experiment.
