Re cooks at 11th and 2. Prior to being “Cooks” it was “Clark’s” but that was when I was a teenager so I’m guessing the year to be around 1961 or so.
As for the stolen birds at “Fin,Fur and Feather” , I handled that B&E, I charged Charlie Chesler with it and recovered around $6000 worth of exotic birds. One was “Jake” , about a 2 ft tall , flaming red Macaw Parrot, the I didn’t know had learned to cuss. It was such a beautiful bird I stopped by my mom’s house to let her see it. I sat it, in its large cage, on moms kitchen table. Mom was amazed and said “Polly want a cracker” at which the parrot replied to my mother “up your ass”! I almost died.
Charlie was prosecuted by juvenile services and was back home the same day.
About a year or so later he broke into Fin Fur and Feather again. This time he stole Jake, the beautiful red parrot, again, but this time he pulled out all his feathers, killed it and actually roasted it trying to eat it!
No shit. All true which is why I locked him up, on sight, everytime I saw him, no matter what he was doing. I even caught him walking across mcdonalds lot one night and I purposely hit him with my unmarked car for no reason. No injuries reported.
