When I first met John at a NorCal 1250 meeting many many years ago (perhaps even the first one!) at Paul’s house, I was astonished… I thought he had brought a display of Neptun models, until he graciously allowed me to pick one up, only to find that it was a balsa creation of his own hand.
At the national meeting in San Diego, my lady and I had the pleasure to sit across from John and his wife, and they truly helped make the evening for the both of us. John took the time to explain to my better half the intricacies and details of his models to someone who was, in her words, “very ignorant and trying to learn everything at once.”
John, my friend, you will be missed. Fair winds and following seas, my friend, and thank you for all you have done. For me. For the hobby. For everyone.

I am saddened to say that John Youngerman passed away on Saturday December 11. Known to many of us, John was a collector and prolific builder of 1200/1250 scale models. Many of his models can be seen at his website Miniature Modeling which can be found by going to Collector's Links at the Home Page here.
John also provided masters to Hai and Mountford, some of which were produced and thus examples of his work, as well as many of the wood models that he custom built, are in the hands of collectors around the world.
John was a member of the Northern California Chapter of the SMSC, and we will very much miss his presence at our meetings.
