I was researching a possible connection between Cumberland Steel and Crown barrels last year, when someone (you?) pointed out the foreign sourcing. Cumberland Steel had a patent for making straight tubes, so I had been hopeful that my hometown had contributed in some way to making Smith guns. Turns out these wonderfully straight tubes were used as propeller shafts in ships.
