Hello L. C. Smith Collectors Association,

I was given a LC Smith, double barrel Hammer gun that was hiding in the garage of my son’s home. It was in pretty sad shape, rusty, hammer tips crumbled when trying to cock them, hard to break open and inside the barrels looked black. I wiped it down and saw the name on the side lockplate and looked on the web for information, wow what a site. Using your website I found the serial number 156,888. Side lockplates are a 2 pin 1 screw type, "C" style hammers, and it’s an F Grade. With further investigation all the parts are number matching. The stock butt plate is missing, but stamped in the bottom is the number 3 ¼. Would the butt plate have been numbered? On the bottom of the barrels near the breech are numbers 4 over 5 and a backwards “C”, the top left side of the barrels reads Hunter Arms Co. Maker Fulton, NY, and right side has no marks. The barrel measures 30 inches and I think it is a Crolle/Twist. The stock is 14 inches long and the grip and fore-end have checkering. Hammers seem to be a little different and the firing pins are not a match. One of the machine screws that hold the hammer in place has lost half of its head. Do you happen to know the thread size? I am going to have a gunsmith look it over. Would you suggest that l get a Research Letter? Is this a common L. C. Smith side by side hammer shotgun? Thank you for this great website and the time all your members contribute.

    Thanks again
    Orville Turner
