Once again I find myself in error. As another gentleman herein so kindly mentioned in a reply to my question, I am a "novice" at the world of L.C. Smith history. I have asked about various books, as I plan to buy them. I can't always get my computer link to find the posted answers Mr. Murphy alludes to- I did go to the FAQ and read carefully about dating and place of manufacture of various L.C. Smith guns-I just purchased the older Syracuse or Fulton mfg. 2E serial number 1074 from area GM store, and am preparing to submit this to Mr. Stubbendeick for a Records Search certificate. As far as the 1907 catalog is concerned, I was only interested as I thought it could be reproduced and made available in the quarterly newsletter to the paid membership, and as it is the exact year of manufacture of my other 2E 12 gauge sn. 315816 I had an interest. I have never purchased such an item, have no idea what it might be worth, I don't see such items in the Steven Fjestaad Blue Books as I do L.C. Smith shotguins. I had two friends who were badly 'burned" in E-Bay deals, and also, I would never give out a credit card to anything on the Internet. For those of you that have done so and been pleased with the inherent transactions that ensued, that is indeed fine. Without seeming crass, may I add that it is my money, not yours, and if I err on the side of caution, is that not my perogative in any financial transaction, whether gun related or not> I bought both my older 12 gauge Smith 2E grades from the GM gun dept. because, for that kind of money, I want to see the weapon-I looked at each one three different times before writing the check, and GM backs their used guns with a solid warranty, I also am friends with the Gunsmith at the outlet from where I bought those Smiths. Might I respectfully suggest, before tempers flare and things get 'out of hand' and we forget we are gentlemen, albeit strangers, that the BOD review the 'problems' concerning my postings herein as delineated by Mr. Murphy, and if they find me lacking, I will accept their courteous guidance forth with. I thank Mr. Murphy for his possible attempt to be my "rabbi" as the Law Enforcement community monikers the older and wiser ones that guide the new members to the force. His posts are well researched and he speaks, albeit via e-mail, with great wisdom about the Smith guns.
