Peugeot 406 HDi, W plate, non-starterArchived Message

Called to this trade customer with the above non-starter 'but it starts instantly on a tow'. Confidently predicted over the 'phone that it would be an injector down and a leakage test would identify which one. Whoops, leakages minimal and even on all four injectors. However, rail pressure at crank only 47 bar. Starts instantly on a whiff of easystart and idles at 298 bar, going to a fluctuating 455-510 bar @ 3,000 rpm and 675-720 bar@ 4,000 rpm. With minimal common rail kit, where do I go next in my diagnosis to separate low pump output from faulty pressure valve from an internal leak- but where? Peugeot dealer wants to sell me a new pressure regulating valve at £250 plus vodka! TIA, Peter
