Diesel has lubricating properties and petrol doesn't this is one of the main reasons damage can occur on modern day high pressure diesel pumps etc
and any bits of worn pump debris then ends up blocking injectors or going back to the fuel tank to then be sucked back around again and again.
The days have long gone when you could get away with brimming it with diesel and running through the dodgy/diluted mix.
