Thanks Bryan now it makes sence even more as the owner of this car has owned it for 3 years and never had a service it also is what I like to call a school run car so if the egr has been siezed for some time like I expect then this local running which will all be done at light throttle so the vehicle would have been running lean and obviously gradually the gases that where supposed to be used to prevent this lean mixture not actually being used but just coking up the valve. Oil and filter have been changed as part of the job and I am going to advise my customer to get this done every year or 10000 miles. Thanks again for your replies I now feel more confident that I have fixed the problem as well as the cause as this was my worry that it would come back next year with same fault. Thanks again
