The basic point still stands--are they going to be able to keep bringing up enough value through their farm system to flip for rental relievers every year? Or would it be better to find a guy and lock him up for 3-4 years?

Maybe they can sustain the farm system to keep doing that every year. But precisely because they have a core that's going to keep them as one of the favorites every year for a while, I think they'd want to find a longer term bullpen solution.
And yeah, the free agent cost for relievers is going up, but the same valuation that's leading to that is presumably also pushing up their trade value as well. There's no reason for one to be de-linked from the other.
So it's just a question of whether they think it's easier to come up with that price in prospects or in dollars. Given that they're one of the bigger market teams, I'd have thought the cash was more reliable and easier to find. But maybe not.

That is going to be around for a long time.
And they still have a pretty strong system and I suspect they will always have a strong system as its a priority of Theo/Jed/McLeod.
And they've only traded for two bigger name rentals (well officially only one).
That doesn't seem like a concern at all.. No reason to lock yourself into bad deals.
Also they've opened up the checkbook quite a bit (Lester, Heyward). They have a top 5-6 payroll. So I disagree with your premise
