Even in my early 30s i was buying 6 month short term policies so I could get my fringe benefit from my job (about $5k a year extra deposited into my 401k)

Then Obamacare no longer considered short term health plans eligible to avoid the penalty. That asshole!

Get goverment out of the business of dictating what has to be included and covered in health insurance plans.

When I was in my early 20s and in law school, my dad bought me a simple but solid health insurance plan specifically designed for younger, healthier people. It was dirt cheap. But then Kentucky decided that all health insurers in the state had to offer government mandated minimum coverages to all insureds. Whether the insureds wanted the coverage or not. And my health insurance company thus left the state.
