Well, at the very least the US is buying Mid-east oil, which will fund $$ to invest in Iran.

So at some level, you could say that we're funding this investment.
Could the various Middle Eastern countries use their funds in any of a zillion investments? Sure. Right now, they're choosing some that are in Iran.
Anyway, that's what I get out of it. On a different level, may be trying to get Iran out of an inward-focused theocracy and closer to a democracy; but that's JMHO, and I'm certainly no international diplomat.
