They are overall doing well for people in their mid to late 80s but that's a relative thing. I am cognizant of the reality that they probably do not have many years left. I try to treat each major holiday as though it could be the last with them. They and my sister and her family are really my only family. I will likely find myself adrift after my parents are gone. I am already seeing that the younger members of my extended family have no recollection of my grandparents or anyone else from that generation. And quite frankly, little interest. Life marches on.
