A Golfing friend of mine (Terry Fountain) was Financial director at Bradford City. We played them in Div 2 (I think it was 1987) and Terry gave me 2complimentary tickets for the directors box. I took my daughter with me but for some reason our seats were a seat apart. About 10 minutes before kick off the seat between us was filled by Dave Sexton (ex Man utd and Chelsea manager). He introduced himself to me and I made it clear to him we were there to watch "Latics". At that time he was manager of England under 23s. So before the match started he asked my opinion of Earl Barrett as he was there to watch him.I gave Earl a glowing report and then we proceeded to lose the game ( I think 5-3.) Earl was still picked for the under 23s and later played a couple of full internationals.
During half time (free buffet and drinks) I also met and spoke to John Charles.
In 1974 I played golf in the North Manchester Pro-Am. It was 4 ball better ball. Myself and my partner managed to win with 44 points stableford. But one of our playing partners from Bolton Old
Links was Malcolm Barrass( ex Bolton ) who played in the 1953 "Mathews" FA Cup final. He insisted that if Bolton hadn't lost their full back with a broken leg in the 1st half (when 2-1 up) Wanderers would have won.
I was in Tobago(West Indies) in 1980 and I met a Lady in the Hotel restaurant who recognized my Oldham accent. It was Ronnie Blairs sister who lived near Hollingworth Lake. We lived within 400 yards of the lake but had never met her before.
I was in Cyprus in 2007. We were at Dekalia Army Barracks having fish and chips in the best chippy on the island. Sat next to us was ex Tottenham manager Keith Birkenshaw.
