I thought Mellon was right to initially let him go, this time last year. But he improved dramatically, last season, over anything that he had shown in his career, previously. Primarily due to knuckling down and getting his fitness up to the level that ought to be expected from a professional footballer. I’m delighted that he proved me wrong. Really didn’t see that coming, a year ago. And expect MM similarly delighted to have had his initial judgement proved wrong.
Can he do it in L2? Yes and no. Can’t see him getting us promoted again, or scoring 20 goals again. But definitely, on last season’s form, someone who you would want in the team if we were really struggling against relegation back to the NL.
Not really a question of whether he is good enough for L2. More a matter of whether we can get / afford better. Which largely depends on how ambitious we are. And how good the management’s judgement turns out to be in respect of any alternative recruits. There’s not much point judging in advance, before we even know who any potential alternatives might be, never mind seen them play.
