To be fair, it is not necessary for all the games to be separated in the early rounds, as they are just now. So it shouldn't affect the length of the competition.
I didn't know about South America games, but there must be a way around it.
The fact is, opening up the WC to smaller or less established national teams is good for the growth of the game in general.
Imagine if the first FA Cup was only PL teams and stayed that way for almost a hundred years. Then suddenly, Luton (and others, obviously) were allowed to enter every year . Would we say it was a bad thing?

Of course if every game ended 1-1.........👽
