Barkley didn’t take up a precious PL loan spot.

I can see why we signed Lokonga, but I maintain that you can’t take that sort of risk with one of your PL loan spots. Judged at the end of the PL season, the Lokonga signing was absolutely not a success given the number of games he was unavailable for.
