Dan Wildhaber, it is disappointing to hear that you have had such a range of experiences with gunsmiths recommended on the Forum. However, I would take issue with the blanket statement, " |
If you refer a gunsmith to someone, that makes you responsible for the work that is performed." I would argue that in any business, and particularly in a service business, nothing is more valuable and sought after than word-of-mouth recommendations. I try to be circumspect about recommending anyone. By the same token, I am circumspect about taking a recommendation from anyone I don't know personally. It is still up to me to accept the risk of taking such a recommendation.
I also don't necessarily think it is the role of L.C.S.C.A. to vet gunsmiths or other service providers. That would actually involve exposing the organization to unnecessary risk.
Just my 2 cents worth.
