Michael, the No. 2 was a standard production made gun sold from the factory or at hardware and other stores. You could special order it with ejectors and the Hunter One Trigger, straight stock, ivory front and middle bead and a recoil pad but I don't know the year it was first offered.
The first style engraving was this style, this one has ejectors and was made in 1894 and then it was listed as a Quality 2. The barrels on this gun were also special ordered as Chain Damascus was standard until 1895 when Crown Steel barrels were offered. This particular gun has a lead weight that is 7/8" diameter and don't know how deep but the Records show it left the factory at 9 lbs. It also has a special ordered butt plate that shows 2 setters on point. This gun is a 12 ga. with 30" barrels.
This is a No. 2E from 1914, the last one recorded as a No. 2E, after this they were a Specialty Grades. This gun is the last style of engraving with what Andy called free birds, no circles. The Research letter states this record appears 350 entries after the record of the previous "pre-1913" grade (August 13, 1913) and is one of the last appearing in the ledgers. This is a 12 ga. with 28" Chain Damascus barrels and with ejectors.
