I am the one who started this thread. Please recall that my main goal is to achieve the maximum extension of life for the stock with my son and grandson in mind. Secondarily, but still important, I wish to make the stock appearance with the least deviation in color from that as it had when originally manufactured. For longevity, I am of the impression that an oil finish would be the best to replace the natural oils that are likely gone now, after almost 70 years. Is this correct? I am concerned that Boiled Linseed Oil after 9 - 11 light applications, the color will be too dark. As originally recommended above, using Tung Oil according to what I gather from web research, will give a lighter color & provide the benefits of an oil finish. Am I correct so far? If all of that is correct, I now need to decide between pure uncut Tung Oil or one of the chemically enhanced Tung Oil products. I do not mind waiting a long time for the oil to soak in between numerous applications. Do any of you have opinions about that? A will be appreciated.
