1905; 12 ga.; O grade. I'm interested in refinishing the stock and fore end of my '05 but am wondering how you handle the checkering so that the overall coloration, including checkering, is even. My gun has see a lot of use and the stock is almost worn down to the bare wood on the lower half. Likewise, the checkering on both pieces of wood is almost worn smooth. Is it feasible to scrape/sand the finish off all but the checkering and then refinish the whole stock? I'm concerned about loosing the checkering altogether if I just sand everything to bare wood, or, the checkering being such a different color as to be unsightly. Any recommendations? Thanks.
