I just purchased this L.c. Smith from an estate auction in Richmond, Virginia.
This is what I have learned about the gun so far.
The stamps say: L.C. Smith Shotgun with a Serial Number 22905
Pat+D , March 29, 1883 . L 1886 Can anyone tell me if I am correct in my analysis of the gun?
I took the gun to be examined, cleaned and oiled.
I was told it was in medium to heavy wear condition, but had no major pitting in or outside the barrel and that it was in working order with no damage to internal parts.
They said because of the age it should not be fired without an X- Ray scan to look for micro cracks in the barrels. that seemed a bit excessive to me. Does anyone agree with them?
I'd like to read any ideas or comments people have.
