"Failed big time" is hardly the terminology that anyone would use to describe the durability of the Model 21. I have owned dozens of them since I bought my first pair 43 years ago. This year, I had my gunsmith reset my first rib and forend lug. I have shot competition in several disciplines for fifty years and have not seen a rib separated on a Model 21 on the shooting field yet. Yes, it happens, but not often. The rib and lug loosened on one of my trap guns about ten years ago. I finally got tired of shooting it only in dry weather, so got it fixed this year. It happens much more often in the minds of internet posters than it does to actual owners of Model 21s. However, to clarify my allegiance to brand name, my favority 1907 Smith pigeon gun has not needed repair of any kind either, and has not lead a sheltered life.
