    Congratulations on your new "elsie". The little wedge shaped plate is the cocking plate that the cocking rods hit to re-cock the gun. Make sure that little screw (4-40 thds) is tight or you might loose it.
    As far as hearing something loose when you shoulder it, it could be the cocking rods themselves if the gun is re-cocked when you shoulder it. If not I don't know what it is.
    As far as storing it barrel down, well some people do, I don't, there isn't any oil going anywhere.
    You can use low pressure loads, doesn't mean they are low velocity. Use that Unique load I gave you.
