    Stock refinish options? Archived Message

I'm partial to hand-rubbed oil-finished stocks verses the poor excuses you see for gun stocks coming onto the market these days. Even well-made guns (as far as weight & balance and metalwork) seem to have lackluster stocks on them. I'm sure it's purely a cost-savings component of modern gun economics (properly finished stocks take lots of time) but it bugs me to no-end to look closely at a relatively expensive firearm (even in the $1000 to $2000 range) and see that the woodwork received only a cursory attempt at a finish.

Has anyone experimented with one of the various refinish kits out there? I've used the Purdey's Warthog kit with very good results (but again, a slow, time-consuming process; I'm in the middle of one now). Any tips or warnings?
