Bill, As I was taught, "strip and clean" for a sidelock entails removing the locks(R & L) only. This will show any wood cracks,etc. It will allow the trained 'smith to evaluate wood and metal and to clean the locks. The barrels are pretty self explanatory. The forend iron is generally left in place as is the buttstock, unless there is a problem noted by the customer or the 'smith. Hope this helps. Best, Dr. BILL
